Official Public $1.5M Grant Announcement 7/29/2024
This project requests funds to build a youth center that will offer no-cost programs for school-aged children living in West Baltimore, MD's Penn-North community. This project is a much-needed facility in an area void of quality after-school and out-of-school programs for children. This new youth hub will provide a space for children to partake in tutoring, academic support services and healthy social interactions with their peers in a positive environment, enabling the positive youth development necessary to become productive citizens.
Special thanks to Ms. Annie J. Hall, President of the Penn-North Community Association, the residents, our youth, and the 40th MD delegation. For nine consecutive years, we have been nomads. A home of our own is now possible. Thank you all, Debbie Ramsey, Founder.
We believe exposing children to different arts and cultures is important for their personal growth and development. Our program includes activities that promote creativity, cultural awareness, and self-expression. Our high school students engage in a two-week creative writing camp, tuition-free, at one of Maryland's prestigious private colleges, whereby their works are published and distributed throughout Baltimore's metropolitan area.
Generational changes, for the better, begin today. Will you join us?
UE's mission: reduce summer and vital learning losses. The pandemic was just one of their challenges.
Our summer program is led by experienced instructors who are passionate about teaching and have years of experience working with children. They are experts in their field and bring a wealth of knowledge to our program.
We believe in the importance of the written expression. Our program helps our high school students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
We believe that healthy eating is key to a child's well-being. That's why we provide healthy snacks, such as fruits and vegetables, to all participants. We also accommodate for any dietary restrictions.
Science, math, technology, engineering, arts, and culture activities stimulate our children's creativity.

Today, we are preparing to provide a well-deserving community, a safe place for children to learn, grow, thrive, and attain their goals. We invite your help to build an out-of-school time center for Baltimore's youth.

North Star Baltimore is a student-led program of UnIFIED Efforts, Inc. Our Northstar logo was designed by TBC, Baltimore, MD. The North Star is the brightest star, in Ursa Minor, at the end of the handle of the Little Dipper. The northern axis of the Earth points towards it, and to keep from getting lost the North Star is used in navigation and astronomy. As a youth-led organization, we trust our youth to lead the way in discovering paths to sustainable peaceful resolutions.
"Following the North Star - guiding our youth in the right direction."
In Memoriam, Tayshawn Nathaniel Michael Walker: One, of UE's earliest out of school time students. Tay was instrumental in launching UE's first New Career Paths paid internship program.
UE's mission is simple: reduce summer learning loss. Provide specialty, multipurpose and academic programs for students year-round to minimize academic loss when school-aged children are out of school for extended times. Our programs and activities include financial literacy, free dental screenings, aviation-aerospace, cooking with whole foods, athletic activities, the arts, writing, swim lessons, bullying prevention, sign language and CPR for children.
